Gunny Sage-grouse Roadshow Denver Aug 31

#StandWithGunny postcardsJoin us at “Colorado #ReadyFor100 Clean Energy Celebration” Sierra Club Rocky Mountain Chapter event at the Denver’s Skyline Park, August 31 for the Gunny Sage-grouse Roadshow!

Currently, we have an ongoing campaign to ask the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to designate two critical habitats for the threatened Gunnison sage-grouse as Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACECs). This action will protect 37,000 acres of the most important habitat for two small and incredibly vulnerable populations of this unique bird in Southwest Colorado. By attending the event and taking action, you will help to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy watching the Gunnison sage-grouse dance at sunrise, and benefit all of the other species that call this area home!

#ReadyFor100This stop for the Gunny Sage-grouse Roadshow is during Sierra Club Rocky Mountain Chapter’s event “Colorado #ReadyFor100 Clean Energy Celebration”!

Join the Sierra Club, Google, and Environment Colorado, and others in a celebration of the progress cities across Colorado have made for a just and equitable transition to a 100% renewable energy future, through bold commitments and sustainability goals. We’ll be focusing the day on solar opportunities in our sunny state, and the exclusive release of a Colorado cities report on clean energy potential utilizing data from Google’s Project Sunroof to help inform local and state efforts, raise awareness, and spur greater adoption of solar as part of their renewable energy standards as part of their path to going 100% renewable.

Community leaders from across the state will take the stage at 11:30 am to address the necessity of bold action and collaboration on climate change and the creation quality jobs through innovative solutions in the state. Afterward, at 12:30, participants will create a “human sculpture” aerial art image of a sun with the Denver Clocktower as a backdrop.

Informational booths, job fair, and food trucks will be available from 11:30pm – 3:00pm.

Register for this event online.

What’s happening at the Roadshow?

  • Take your picture with a larger-than-life Gunnison sage-grouse and send it to the BLM Tres Rios Field Office with a message about why you #StandWithGunny.
  • For the kids, we’ll have Gunnison sage-grouse coloring page – they can color their Gunny, sign their name, and send it to the BLM Tres Rios Field Office. We’ll also post their artwork on our Rocky Mountain Wild Pinterest page!
  • We’ll also have some information about the importance of all these actions, including: video of their famous mating dances and fact sheets about the species, habitat, and campaign.
