Responsible Development

Responsible Development

The human population of our region is growing at an alarming rate, and along with it, so are the environmental impacts from increased housing, roads, shopping centers, and utility infrastructure. Some of the largest impacts to our species have come from the rapid increase in industrial exploration and extraction of fossil fuels on our public lands.

Rocky Mountain Wild’s Responsible Development program works to find balanced solutions that protect the biodiversity of our region while allowing for responsible human development. We use the best available science and analysis to monitor all proposed oil and gas lease sales in CO, WY, UT, MT, and NM, and work to stop those sales that will negatively affect the species in our care. To date, we have helped to defer over 1.9 million acres of habitat from oil and gas drilling.
