The mountains make my heart sing. I know that sounds like a trite line from an old musical, but it is really the only way I can describe it. There is something about the angle of high altitude sunshine and the smell of pine duff under my feet that gives me a sense of wellbeing that I just can’t find anywhere else. In the mountains I experience “flow,” and wonder, and joy, and inner strength – often all at the same time.
So, when it comes time to put my money where my values are during the giving season I donate to Rocky Mountain Wild (as well as several other local environmental groups). I like knowing that my funds support groups and people in my community who really understand and care about the same places I do. I also appreciate the heart, passion, and efficiency that drives smaller non-profits organizations. And, most importantly, I give as a way to say “thank-you” to the mountains.
P.S. – I will be designating my donation to Rocky Mountain Wild’s Healthy Habitats program. This program supports the protection and restoration of healthy ecosystems throughout the southern Rocky Mountains.
