September 10, 2019 Lease Sale
Environmental Assessments (posted 5/30/2019)
- Comments must be received by 4:30 pm on Monday, July 1, 2019. Comments must be submitted electronically through links on the ePlanning website for the September 2019 Oil and Gas Lease Sale. Click on the Home tab (on the left of the page) for important information on how to comment and on the Document tab to find the Environmental Assessment (EA) documents and the links to submit comments for each field office. More information about the sale is available in the Press Release and on the BLM Utah Oil and Gas Lease Sale web page.
- According to the Press Release and documents, BLM Utah is proposing to offer 149 parcels/183,668 acres in lands managed by the
Canyon Country, Color Country, Green River, and West Desert Districts in their September lease sale. This consists of parcels in Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Grand, Iron, Morgan, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, and Uintah counties in the Cedar City, Moab, Monticello, Price, Richfield, Salt Lake, and Vernal Field Offices.
- This sale includes parcels originally proposed for sale in December 2018 and in March and June 2019. Primarily this is to allow a longer comment period for parcels that overlap greater sage-grouse habitat.
- Rocky Mountain Wild has prepared a screen showing conflicts between the proposed parcels and important wildlife, wilderness and other resource values. Conflicts identified include:
- Important areas for greater sage-grouse including management areas, winter habitat, and areas within 0.6 miles of leks identified by the Utah Department of Wildlife and priority habitat management areas identified by BLM.
- Important areas for white-tailed prairie dogs.
- Land adjacent to the Squaw/Papoose Canyon Wilderness Study Area
- Parcels within 10 miles of Arches National Park and Bears Ears (Shash Jaa Unit), Canyon of the Ancients, and Hovenweep National Monuments.
- Red Creek Watershed Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC).
- Areas proposed as Wilderness in the Americas Red Rock Wilderness Act.
- Lands identified as having Wilderness Characteristics by BLM and by citizens’ inventories.
- State Wildlife Management Areas.
- Parcels in the Moab Master Leasing Plan (MLP) Area and the San Juan Proposed MLP.
- Parcels within the Human-powered Recreation Footprint 1/4-mile buffer identified by Outdoor Alliance.

June 11, 2019 Lease Sale
Sale Notice (posted 4/25/2019)
- Protests must be received by 4:30 p.m. MT on Monday, May 6, 2019. Important information on how to protest is available on the BLM ePlanning web page for the June 2019 Oil and Gas Lease Sale. Click on the Home tab (on the left of the page) for this information and on the Document tab to find the Sale Notice and supporting documents. The Sale Notice also includes information on how to protest starting on page 9.
- According to the webpage and documents, BLM Utah is proposing to offer 8 parcels/11,588 acres in lands managed by the Canyon Country and West Desert Districts. Parcels are proposed to be offered in Sevier County in the Richfield Field Office and in Box Elder County in the Salt Lake Field Office.
- Conflicts identified included a parcel within 1/4 mile of the human-powered recreation footprint identified by the Outdoor Alliance. That parcel overlays sandstone hills with attractive rock outcrops near Richfield Utah. Also, the parcels in the Hogup Foothills in the Salt Lake Field Office may impact historic resources associated with Golden Spike.
