The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Colorado will begin this fall (2014) working with conservation groups and other agencies (including Denver Water) to create a Master Leasing Plan for the South Park area in Colorado. These plans are intended to take into account resource conservation when planning future oil & gas development on public lands in that area.
Colorado Wildlife Federation is working with other conservation groups to provide a positive influence on the BLM as they create this Master Leasing Plan. Colorado Wildlife Federation originally applied for a Master Leasing Plan for South Park in 2011. Rocky Mountain Wild has been involved with this effort since 2011, helping to map the boundaries of this area and provide information about leasing and wildlife in this area.
The following links provide a high resolution map of the area and the proposed boundaries in Google Earth (kmz) format and GIS shapefile format. Please e-mail the Colorado Wildlife Federation if you would like to get involved in protecting this unique natural area of Colorado.
