Today is World Day of Social Justice! The main goal of this day is to raise awareness of social injustices including poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, and unemployment, and to uplift human rights and social protections. This year’s theme is “Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social Justice.”
Our Gender Advancement and Parity in STEM (GAPS) program works to overcome gender barriers in our field. And now is the perfect time to participate in our current GAPS fundraiser if you haven’t already.
The GAPS program supports our work to reduce gender bias in our field. And while the program has been on hold since COVID began, we are ready to start back up with the launch of the mentorship program former volunteer Frankie Chiappetta first proposed and worked on pre-COVID!
Next month, Women’s History Month appropriately enough, we will be launching the mentorship program. This program will connect emerging and seasoned environmentalists and scientists from marginalized genders and help those connections flourish through networking and educational opportunities, and will provide a closed forum for participants to share resources, concerns, questions, advice, and support.
